About Obulisc

Obulisc is a Virtual Reality Game designed from within Virtual Reality with the intention of exploring new Video Game design theories and techniques only suitable for the new technology. Obulisc uses a volumetric gravity system to allow the player character to traverse a non-symmetrical planetoid orb and involves physics based objects responsive to the gravity interactions. Despite 360ᵒ rotation on the Head Mounted Display (HMD), the player does not experience discomfort due to controlling the visible horizon at all times. The HMD is programed to follow the player’s rotation on the spherical map.   In fact, testing shows players often “forget” about the rotation, only to be surprised at the concept of “standing sideways” without noticing. By having control over the horizon, proper visual composition can be controlled at all times allowing for breathtaking artistic displays.

Game play will consist of physics based challenges and puzzles to showcase the gravity system on a sphere. At its core, Obulisc will focus on basic outdoor activities and further distractions (listed in the “Development Roadmap” segment). Gravity currently has interactive collisions and a realistic feeling of weight and balance (allowing for juggling, even in the current state of Obulisc). After release, a planned update cycle will take place. This allows Obulisc to contain elements of an Alternate Reality Game in Virtual Reality.  Obulisc will not be Early Access Software, but will have features added over a planned cycle
